AEON Mall Tebrau City is the first stop in Malaysia for AEON's 42nd anniversary Japanese booths. They run from 1 to 13 September 2026, a week of kimono rental, goldfish scooping, workshops, and a oversized Daruma Otoshi game in the atrium before the set moves to Taiping and Shah Alam.
The Vibes and Focus Malaysia both published the same schedule on 4 September. Tebrau City is the only Johor mall named for the experiential booths. AEON Mall Taiping follows from 8 to 20 September. AEON Mall Shah Alam takes the last slot from 22 September to 4 October. If you live in Desa Tebrau, this fortnight is the window. After the 13th, the booths leave Johor.
What is actually in the atrium
The booths mix Japanese food and merchandise with three activities you can join without a ticket. Kimono rental is the photo one. Goldfish scooping, the festival game with a thin paper scoop, is the one kids hover around. Workshops sit beside those, usually short and walk-up. AEON has not published a per-session fee on the mall event page, so treat the booths as free to enter and budget cash if a rental or workshop desk posts a price on the day.
The Daruma Otoshi is the landmark. It is the wooden stacking toy scaled up into a mall installation. Only Tebrau City and Shah Alam get one. Japanese-themed décor with AEON mascots Wira and Manja fills the rest of the court. That is the bit you can see even if you skip the games and just cut through from Uniqlo to Tsutaya.
Receipts, plushies, and the Atome hunt
The booths are the public face. The spend mechanics sit behind them. AEON members who spend RM420, or non-members who spend RM620, across three same-day receipts from participating tenants and AEON Stores can redeem Japanese-style Wira and Manja plushies. Keep the receipts together. One combined spend split across three slips is the rule both The Vibes and Focus Malaysia printed.
A Spend and Win contest sits on a lower bar. Spend RM42 at participating tenants or AEON Stores and you enter a draw for 42 pairs of flight tickets, Japan and domestic, backed by Batik Air. One thousand Zootopia luggage pieces run through the campaign. AEON Mall will name 125 winners a week on its social channels. The Japanese Sushi Roll Challenge is capped at 50 contestants at participating malls. Ask the information counter on the ground floor whether Tebrau City is running a heat that weekend. Selected malls also get a 1,000-piece balloon drop with 42 gift balloons inside, plus a 4.2km fun walk. Those two are listed as selected malls only, not confirmed for Tebrau in the press copy.
Atome is confirmed here. Activation booths, mini games, and a scavenger hunt run at AEON Mall Tebrau City, AEON Mall Bukit Indah, and AEON Mall Shah Alam on selected weekends. Atome users who spend RM320 across three transactions at participating tenants can redeem RM20 Watsons cash vouchers. That pool is 2,700 redemptions across all 27 AEON Malls. Selected tenants also give Atome users 15% off with a RM100 minimum, capped at RM15.
26 September kimono day, and the supermarket floor
The nationwide kimono gathering is Saturday 26 September. Shah Alam is the main venue and the Malaysia Book of Records attempt for the largest gathering of people in Japanese traditional attire in a mall. All 27 AEON Malls take part, which includes Tebrau City. Come in kimono or yukata. The first 100 participants at malls outside Shah Alam who arrive in Japanese attire get a Japanese knit bag and goodies. Lucky draw prizes are sponsored by Poh Kong. Register if the mall posts a QR at the information counter. Do not assume the Shah Alam 600-person knit-bag quota applies in Johor. It does not.
On the AEON department store and supermarket floors in this building, the 42nd anniversary sale runs 3 to 30 September. Syioknya's catalogue for participating AEON stores lists RM42-only lines such as Audrey and Scarlet bras, Men Plus chino pants, Marvel oversized tees, Hoppi Royal Dream diaper pants, and Pallas character shoes. Electronics cuts include an Elba 12kg washer at RM899 from RM1,799 and a Samsung 55-inch 4K TV at RM1,799 from RM2,999. AEON Danga Bay is excluded. Tebrau City is not. Stocks are while-stocks-last, and the supermarket hours follow the mall, 10am to 10pm Sunday to Thursday, 10am to 10.30pm Friday, Saturday, and eves of public holidays.
The honest trade-off is crowding. Weekends in this atrium already stack with Singapore day-trippers off bus J10. Add kimono queues and a Daruma installation and the ground floor slows. Go weekday late morning if you want the booths without a 20-minute photo wait. Go 26 September if you actually want to wear a kimono in public with a few hundred other people.
