Don't waste your time. The food is bad and the service is very slow. You need plenty of patience to eat "peacefully" here. The wait time between dishes is like 30 minutes, and that's after waiting about 25 minutes for the first dish to arrive.
Imagine on crowded days, like during CNY (Chinese New Year) – you'd probably have to camp out here! 🤣
The rice quality is terrible.
The vegetable dish had only five small prawns and lacked flavor.
The crispy oyster omelet wasn’t crispy at all and wasn’t even hot. It looked oily.

Food standards are inconsistent. During a Saturday lunch on the weekend, there was only one chef, and the egg and "shark fins" dish was too salty. We ordered two different types of fried rice, and both lacked wok hei. This visit was disappointing. Many dishes were claimed to be unavailable so early in the day. The braised duck was tender but cold, and the gravy was also too salty, with little flavor; the kitchen didn't even try to add any garnishes. The fried sillago fishes weren't big or tasty. Even the so-called high-quality pu-er tea seemed bland. The shark's fin soup was watery but had a good quantity of ingredients, the only saving grace from all the dishes ordered.

Ordered the crab porridge, taste-wise it was okay and passed my picky taste buds, but there were quite a few bits of shells inside. They could have done better, as it's dangerous for kids to eat. The amaranth soup with crab yolk also had broken shell. The pomegranate-shaped prosperity balls were average, a little tough, and the soup base for that clashed with the beef in golden soup we ordered; it was the same base.
Personally, I would have enjoyed the meal more if the staff serving our table could have shown more enthusiasm and warmth. During order taking, she was half-hearted about it. We ordered like 5-6 dishes, but she only noted down 3. Then, in the middle of our meal, she came over to the table and stealthily put the wet tissues on the table. We had no idea what her issue was. Why bother to work if your heart isn't in it? Seriously zero service from her. It made our meal there totally unwelcoming. Due to such service, it will be our first and last visit there. With so many restaurants around, we can definitely skip this one and splurge at another place.
The crispy oyster omelette was forgettable; maybe we ordered the non-spicy version. So overall, though the menu looked promising, there is great room for improvement.
The place also gives out a free dessert for a Google review. No wonder the rating, despite the actual taste and service.

I would usually recommend Chao Shan at Aeon Tebrau to my family and friends. However, I am greatly disappointed and no longer recommend it after experiencing dishonesty, improper service, and poor food quality.
Regarding the hairy crab seasonal item, I had asked for one piece but was told it only comes as a set of two. After the waitress keyed in the order, she came to double-confirm with me and seemed surprised by the price of 2pcs at 98RM each. I immediately informed the waitress of the cancellation, but she replied that the kitchen was already preparing the order. Hence, I asked why she needed confirmation since the order had already reached the kitchen. She rebutted, mentioning she only wanted to confirm the remaining orders besides the hairy crabs.
Unfortunately, the hairy crabs did not have a sweet taste and were overcooked, with all the meat stuck to the shell, suggesting they may not have been fresh.
The Teochew pork slices were also overcooked and not well prepared. They were awfully thick slices compared to past visits, where the meat was able to melt in the mouth. This time, it was tough and inedible.

"The food is generally a 6–8 ⭐️ out of 10. The cod fish, which cost RM$150, was quite disappointing due to a lack of freshness. The salted prawns 🦐 were another disappointment. The rest of the dishes were just okay, but the stir-fried beef was good."

It was very crowded during dinner time. The diners queued in an orderly manner, waiting for their turn to enter the restaurant.
This was my first time trying Chao Shan Restaurant. As I am Teochew, I was looking forward to the Chao Shan cuisine.
The staff are quite friendly and explain their meat portions, especially if you are a solo diner or a couple.
Please be mindful that the staff can be very busy during dinner time, so you need to be patient.
I loved the Teochew Braised Platter. You can taste the 卤味 (braised flavor), and the meat was quite tender, except for the duck wings, which were very hard.
I recommend ordering the Prawns with vegetables and Homemade Beancurd as well.
If you want chili to mix with your food, you will need to request it from the staff, as they will not automatically serve it, except with the Braised Platter.
I also ordered Yam Paste with Pumpkin Paste for dessert. As I was quite full, I decided to take it away.
I'm not sure if it was due to the takeaway, but I felt the Yam Paste was just "meh." I wasn't able to taste the yam (it was tasteless), and it had a rather crunchy texture. I could taste the pumpkin more.
If time permits, I would definitely come back again to try other dishes.
Please also note that during peak hours, the dish waiting time can be up to 20 minutes. It's not recommended to eat at the restaurant if you are rushing to board the last bus (T14) back to JB Sentral.

"The fried hor fun had good wok hey and was the nicest dish among what I ordered.
The mixed platter, duck, and egg were overcooked and therefore tough.
The crab meat shark fin egg and yam paste were good.
The hot lemongrass drink was refreshing.
Total bill: MYR 113 for 2 people.
One area for improvement: the waitress should not have cleared plates right in front of me, as I nearly got splashed."

Food is tasty and moderately seasoned. The ambiance is good, with responsive service and a clean environment. (There's even live footage of kitchen preparation available for customers.)

"Nice environment and the staff is good and attentive. The menu has a variety of choices, and the price is average.
The pork ribs taste good; they're flavorful and taste good even without the sauce.
The fried rice with the tiny fish is also good; it's my mom’s favorite.
The pumpkin tofu is flavorful and tasty; I love this dish."
