Foods generally are 6–8 ⭐️ out of 10. Cod fish ordered at RM$150 was quite disappointing (freshness). Salted egg prawns 🦐 were another disappointment. The rest of the dishes were OK only but stir-fried beef was good.

Only the porridge, broccoli and steamed egg were good but these can't really go wrong. Braised duck was tough as rock n steamed pork belly was dry. Service was the worse, non existent, dish was served and taken away without any explanation.

First time trying this restaurant and decided to go for some of their signature dishes. Teo chew chilled jellied pork knuckle: Pretty good! Strong herbal notes and a nice bouncy texture. Teo chew cold pork belly: Not bad, but the skin was a bit too tough and the meat slightly flaky. Amaranth soup with crab yolk: One of the highlights! You can really taste the crab essence in the soup, very flavorful and comforting. Teo chew crispy oyster omelette: Unfortunately, not crispy at all. Tasted more like a regular omelette, and the chili sauce on top didn’t do much to lift the flavor. Pomegranate shaped prosperity ball: Ordered this because it looked impressive in the photos and is a house special. Waited about 20 minutes, but the taste didn’t quite match the presentation, like a dry siew mai in a bland soup. The Pu’er tea was lovely though, aromatic and smooth! Overall, the dishes lean towards the healthier side, but a few just weren’t to my taste. Prices are reasonable and the portion is good for sharing. The environment and service were both pleasant!

Food standard inconsistent. Weekend Saturday lunch and only one chef that gave out too saltish egg n 'shark fins'. Fried rice on two different types both also have no wok hei. Disappointed visit this time. Many dishes claimed not available so early? Braised duck is tender but is cold and the gravy also took salty with little flavour and kitchen doesn't even try to give any garnishes. The fried sillago fishes aren't big and tasty. Even the so-called high quality pu-er tea seems bland in taste. Shark's fin soup is watery but have good quantity of ingredients, the ONLY saving grace from all the dishes ordered.

Had a wonderful dining experience at Chao Shan in AEON Mall JB! The food was exceptional, showcasing authentic Teochew flavors with a modern touch. We ordered their fried duck egg—crispy on the outside with a rich yolk inside, and the braised duck was perfectly tender, packed with deep flavors. The Teochew olive fried rice was fragrant and not too oily, a real standout dish. We also tried the Long Jiang pork rice and triple treasure, and every dish was well balanced and delicious. Service was prompt and friendly, and the overall ambiance was welcoming.

Ordered the crab porridge, taste wise okay, passed my picky taste buds..but quite a few bits of shells inside..could have done better as dangerous for kids to eat..got the amaranth soup w crab yolk also had broken shell..the pomegranate shaped prosperity balls were average..a little tough..and the soup based for that clashed with the beef in golden soup we ordered, same base. Personally would have enjoyed the meal more if the staff serving our table could have shown more enthusiasm and warmth. During order taking, she was half-hearted about it..ordered like 5-6 dishes but only noted down 3..and in the middle of our meal, she came over to the table and stealthily kept the wet tissues on the table. What in the world was her issue we had no idea. Why bother to work if the heart is not there. Zero service from her seriously. Made our meal there totally unwelcoming. Due to such service, it will be our first and last visit there. With so many restaurants around, we can definitely skip this one and splurge at another place. The crispy oyster omelette was forgettable, maybe we ordered the non-spicy version..so overall, though the menu looked promising, there is great room for improvement. The place also gives out a free dessert for a Google review. No wonder the rating despite the actual taste n service.

It was very crowded during dinner time. The diners orderly manner queued and wait for their turn to enter to the restaurant. This was the first time trying Chao Shan Restaurant. As I am Teochew, I am looking forward to the Chao Shan cuisine. The staff are quite friendly to explain on their meat portions especially if you are solo or couple diner. Please be mindful that the staff can be very busy during dinner time where you need to be very patient. I loved the Teochew Braised Platters. You can taste the 卤味 (braised) and the meat quite tender except for the duck wings which is very hard. Recommend to order Prawns with vegetables and Homemade Beancurd as well. If you are someone who wants to have chilli to mixed with your food, you will need to request from the staff as they will not automatically serve you the chilli except for the Braised Platter. I also ordered Yam Paste with Pumpkin Paste dessert. As I am quite full, I decided to takeaway. I am not sure is it due to take away, I felt the Yam Paste is just Meh.. Not able to taste the yam (tasteless) and it was rather crunchy texture. Rather I can taste the Pumpkin. If time permits, I would definitely come back again to try other dishes. Please also noted that during peak hours, the dishout waiting time can be up to 20 Minutes. Not recommended to eat at the restaurant, If you are rushing to board the last bus of T14 back to JB Sentral.

Ordered the sweet corn pork ribs soup and it is nice and can serve 3 to 5 pax. Highly Recommended as it is worth the price for such a big bowl. We had drank finished the soup.😋
