"Eating on site. The food and scones weren't hot enough, which slightly detracted from the otherwise good taste. The eating area is very close to an often overloaded dustbin, and crumbs were visible everywhere on the floor, tables, and seats. I think hygiene is a top priority for customers."

I tried two of their scone flavors: chicken thigh and pepper beef. The crust of the scone was quite hard (and not crispy), despite being warm. I ate both scones immediately, right there, and they were still hard! I'm really puzzled how this store managed to get such a high Google rating. 🤔

"We bought the New Orleans Chicken Thigh and Mala Spicy Chicken Thigh. Compared to what we had at the Mid Valley Megamall in KL, the fillings here were so little. Really disappointed with this outlet."

"My girlfriend and I ate here. We ordered two sets for both of us, and we clearly told them that we didn’t want any green onion in our mee soup. However, when they gave us two scones, one of them was not heated and was very hard to bite. So, we asked if they could reheat the scone, but the girl at the counter told us that it was not their problem. I can’t believe they would say that to a customer. After a small argument, they decided to replace it with a new one and then gave us the two soups with green onion! Really?! And the same girl who told us that it was not their problem even raised her voice at us. I honestly wouldn’t want to eat here if this is the type of service they provide. I couldn’t provide a photo of the scone that was burnt at the bottom because I thought they wouldn’t make an issue about it, but I have no choice but to give a bad review here."

Try the new mutton flavor for MYR 12.10. The aroma and the crispy crust were fantastic, but the mutton was a bit tough, which is unfortunate; otherwise, this would warrant a 5-star rating! However, nothing beats eating a freshly baked 烧饼 in cold weather! P.S.: Today is a rainy day 🌧️

"Tried the shrimp and chicken thigh scones, and they were a waste of calories. A curry puff would have tasted so much better. Part of the scone was too hard to bite, which made it unpleasant. Overrated stall, in my opinion."

"The scones were pre-made and kept warm in an oven, so they were served hot. I ordered the shrimp and chicken thigh, and the meat was well-seasoned! I would try other flavors, too."

Ordered take away. I ate it warm. The Mee was just tasteless. It was like eating tasteless carbs. The soup was not to my liking; I couldn’t finish half of it. The scone was acceptable, much better than the soup and mee.

小李酸菜鱼 Signature Fish 1-2 pax (Non-Oil, Less Spicy, Thick Slices) = RM58.00 (Original Price is RM78.00) 半份五常大米 Wuchang Half White Rice = RM1.60 Service Charge 10% = RM5.96 Service Tax 6% = RM3.58 Weekday Lunch Promo Discount If you visit during Weekdays from 10:00am to 3:00pm, you can enjoy a very nice discount on their Signature Fish (1-2pax). Instead of paying the original price of RM78.00 (S$24.00), the price is discounted to RM58.00 (S$18.00). This place has a modern, quirky look and adopts a monochrome black and white color scheme. There is a nice, appetizing aroma of boiled fish wafting about. Staff are very polite and friendly. 半份五常大米 Wuchang Half White Rice = RM1.60 I'm very amused that most Google reviewers are giving very high praises for their plain white rice of all things. I'll be very honest and say that I felt it didn't smell or taste any different from regular jasmine white rice. I have no idea why it is being so highly praised in Google Reviews of this place. Different strokes for different folks, I guess. 小李酸菜鱼 Signature Fish 1-2 pax (Non-Oil, Less Spicy, Thick Slices) = RM58.00 (Original Price is RM78.00) This was a really large and wide plate when it was served! It also has a somewhat smokey aroma. There are a total of 19 pieces of thick-cut slices, all cut in generally uniform bite-sized pieces. One thing that slightly disappointed me was the appearance of the actual dish. In the menu, it had a very vibrant yellow glow, but the actual dish has a more earthy, duller, milky look accentuated by the green from the sauerkraut it has. The picture in the menu also suggests there are pieces of squid within, but the actual dish only has fish and sauerkraut. Quality of the Soup The first taste of the soup was an elevated, intense mix of savory, sourish, and saltiness of sauerkraut 酸菜. Not at all milky despite its milky look. Not a bad-tasting soup, but because of this elevated level of sourness, I feel this is a soup that is not meant to be drunk dry. The least spicy variation still has a slightly mild spicy heat. It's not the very spicy, stabbing pain type of spicy, but more like a spicy warmth in your throat. There is nothing mala about this. The Veggie Component within the Soup There are a lot of 酸菜 and they gave a nice veggie crunch. They are sourish but not overly so. There are also some pieces of radish slices. Their alternate soft and slightly crunchy textures worked together and did not clash. The Fish Pieces within the Soup No idea what type of fish is used, but they have a nice soft, somewhat velveted bite texture, but also not so soft that they completely flake and crumble when you pick them up. All of them were also boneless. Not fishy at all, also not salty, they have a very clean savory taste, especially accentuated with that 酸菜 soup broth. Very easy to eat, they slide smoothly down my throat with every bite. The quality of fish is not bad, and I liked that there are so many pieces of them for me to enjoy. I never once felt any sort of "fishy jelakness" even after eating so many pieces. Every component in this dish carried its own weight and did its individual job well to elevate the whole dish together in perfect harmony. Nothing in here tried to outdo and outperform to clash the dish. Very nice. Conclusion and Closing Thoughts Other than the somewhat lackluster look of the actual dish compared to the photo on the menu, the overall dish was well-made and tasted not bad. I'm impressed with the 19 pieces of fish. The amount felt generous, and the fish quality themselves are very decent. I have no issues with either the overall dining environment, service level, or the taste of the dishes. Would I try this again if they no longer have their RM58.00 lunch discount in the future? Probably not, because the original price of RM78.00 (S$24.00) feels a tad expensive. RM58.00 (S$18.00) feels like a more acceptable sweet spot for me. Thanks for reading.
