It's been years since I last visited Black Canyon. Today I had Pad Kra Praw, which wasn't too bad. However, the mixed vegetable side for my husband's Roasted Chicken Rice had a bit too much gravy. I was also disappointed with their Prawn Fried Rice, which was wetโ€”almost risotto-like ๐Ÿ˜…. The cucumber, tomato, and lettuce accompaniments were fresh, though. The Cha Thai Yen wasn't too sweet, but I find the portion unjustifiable for the price. I've always liked their Water Chestnut dessert; it still tastes the same as I remember.

The two-star rating is due to my disappointment with the Thai Chicken Green Curry. The brinjals were uncooked, hence tasted bitter and somewhat raw, and the basil had brown streaks on it. The waiter very politely took the curry back to the kitchen and then returned with slightly more cooked brinjals. I was kindly asked if I had ever had Thai green curry before (which I have, several times, in authentic Thai restaurants!). I was then informed that this was how their green curry is prepared. I wish the manager had come to see me and offered me another dish, as some professional restaurants do, but that didn't happen. Not wanting to create discomfort for the other patrons by making a fuss, I decided to finish my drink and pay the bill. I'm sorry to say I don't think I'll dine there again.

Vegetarian fried rice, which was tasty, is the only vegan option. For dessert, they have longan or chestnut sago with coconut milk.

"Very normal Thai dishes, nothing special or unique. The tom yam fried rice is rather bland, and the rice has a somewhat glutinous texture, sticky and in a lump. The spicy fried chicken kway teow doesn't even look like the picture on the menu. I was expecting it to be darker in color and with at least a minimal wok hei taste, which would have been good enough. However, this kway teow tasted more like Ipoh style, whiter in color and also very bland. The Thai rice noodle "kha nam jeen" was a huge disappointment. The okra (lady finger) was very hard and dry; I couldn't even bite it into smaller pieces to swallow it. When I asked the waiter why it was so hard and overcooked until dry, the waiter actually replied, "This okra is a harder type; even cooked longer or less, it will still be hard."... What a reply! I would only recommend the soup, but even then, it's nothing special at all."

"The staff seemed quite out of it. I handed him the order slip, and he just put it in his pocket. Luckily, a friend noticed he hadn't processed it and reminded him. Ordering drinks took a very long time. The simple food and drinks were served by robots, and the robots were even seen trying to navigate around each other. They want people to order via QR code, but the shop has no Wi-Fi, and there's no mobile reception inside for 4G or 5G."

Salted fish fried rice (RM 14.12). Pineapple fried rice (RM 13.03). Omelette (RM 11.49). Salted fish fried rice: a bit sweet, hardly any salted fish, and no aroma of fried rice. The taste was flat. Pineapple fried rice: too sweet, carrots were very raw and hard, below average taste. Omelette (RM 11.49): very salty. The only thing we enjoyed was the atmosphere, environment, and robot serving. Overall, a NO for our next visit to this place. ๐Ÿ˜ž๐Ÿ˜ž๐Ÿ˜ž

This restaurant has been in Aeon Tebrau for a long time. The food is okay, and there are many choices, including drinks. The furniture is outdated and needs a little upgrading. Now, they have a machine that brings food to the table.

"The coffee is nice here. The food tastes only average. Their pad thai is a wet version with a strong tomato taste. The prawn cake is delicious."

Delicious. The staff are very friendly. The price is reasonable; they have set meals for 2-3 people and families.

40 Pad Thai Thai Style Stir-Fried Rice Noodle with Prawn = RM14.95 (Winner of Pad Thai World Championship) Cha Thai Yen Thai Iced Tea with Milk (No Sugar) = RM9.95 Service Charge Absorbed Service Charge 10% = RM2.15 SST Tax 6% = RM1.29 This place is renovated to have a Western Cowboy Wild West feel, but the food offerings lean towards Thai cuisines. A very weird, unusual combination. The staff are polite, friendly, and mostly keep to themselves. Ordering food is through a paper menu, and amusingly, the food is served by a robot. This seems unusually high-tech for a place that gives off more of an old-school Wild West cowboy vibe. I'm happy that all my ordered items were served simultaneously in 5 minutes. Cha Thai Yen Thai Iced Tea with Milk (No Sugar) = RM9.95 Served ice cold in a tall, thin glass. Even though it has no sugar, there is still a sweetness to it. I feel this level of sweetness is just about right. Nice milky, creamy taste with a hint of tea leaves. Not bad tasting and quite refreshing. Pad Thai Thai Style Stir-Fried Rice Noodle with Prawn = RM14.95 (Winner of Pad Thai World Championship) I ordered this because the menu proudly proclaimed it to be the winner of some Pad Thai World Championship. For a Pad Thai that is supposedly a winner of some World Championship, its presentation didn't look impressive. The way it's served looks no different from a regular Pad Thai from a typical food court. It does have a delicious fried, savory aroma. The condiment served on the side tasted like paprika flakes. Slightly bitingly spicy, and the spiciness will linger awhile. There are 3 deshelled, juicy, and bouncy prawns. The amount of *kway teow* isn't a lot, with a wet, sticky appearance and a thickish, *niam niam* bite texture. There is also an elevated taste of sweetness I tasted. Feels like a lot of sugar is added. There are some *taupok* which worked well to soak up any gravy. Overall, a very sweetish and sticky *niam niam* tasting version of Pad Thai. There is no *wok hei* present, although I'm not sure if "*wok hei*" is a concept that is recognized in Thai dishes or not. Although I've never eaten true authentic Pad Thai from Thailand, I've eaten Pad Thai before. I don't exactly like this rendition, but neither do I hate it. It's just different, I guess? As the meal went on, the double combo of the sweetness and *niam niam*-ness got more and more *jelak* for me, and it got to the point where I couldn't finish the dish. The Cha Thai Yen Milk Tea helped a lot to alleviate much of the *jelakness*. Conclusion and Closing Thoughts At RM9.95 (S$3.00) for the Cha Thai Yen Thai Milk Tea, I thought it felt a tad expensive but still barely reasonable for what it is. It does taste decent and refreshing for a Thai Milk Tea, although certainly not something I can drink regularly. At RM14.95 (S$4.60) for the Pad Thai, I just don't feel it's really worth the money. This is basically Singapore food court price. Admittedly, I have never eaten true authentic Thai Pad Thai, so I can't really verify if this is authentic or not. Even though the Pad Thai proclaims to win some Pad Thai World Championship, I feel it's a bit *anyhow dua kang lah*. Other than their self-proclamation, I cannot find any reference to any official Pad Thai World Championship anywhere on the Internet. The initial bite feel was okay, but the eventual *jelakness* got to me so badly that I couldn't finish the dish. So, World Champion or not, if I myself couldn't finish the dish, it really doesn't matter if it won or not. What I am confused about is how strange this whole eatery is. It's a Western Cowboy themed restaurant, but selling Thai cuisines and utilizing a high-tech robot to serve their dishes. It's like this restaurant can't decide what theme it wants to be. There's nothing particularly wrong about this place, but nothing particularly memorable for me either, other than its confusing theme and concept, that is. Thanks for reading.
